CBS Denver: “Colorado’s Environment & Economy Would Benefit From President Biden’s Electric Vehicle Plan”

A local Colorado business says that his company, and many more in the State, will likely see a big upside from President Biden’s announcement that the federal government’s fleet of cars and trucks will be replaced with electric vehicles.

Tim Reeser, CEO of Lightning eMotors, whose company manufactures zero emission buses, delivery trucks, shuttle vans and ambulances, told CBS4 Denver that, “we specialize in those types of vehicles government has a lot of. There aren’t a lot of people who do what we do.”

Other Colorado companies will also likely benefit. “I think we’re going to see an increasing number of companies that are really actively engaged in the vehicle electrification space,” said Will Toor, Director of the Colorado Energy Office.

In an Executive Order this week, President Biden stated that:

“Consistent with the goals of the President’s Build Back Better jobs and economic recovery plan, of which his clean energy jobs plan is a central pillar, the order directs the federal agencies to procure carbon pollution-free electricity and clean, zero-emission vehicles to create good-paying, union jobs and stimulate clean energy industries.”

Commenting on the Executive Order, President Biden said:

“The federal government also owns an enormous fleet of vehicles, which we’re going to replace with clean electric vehicles made right here in America, by American workers,” Biden said, adding the move would create millions of jobs. “Together this will be the largest mobilization of public investment in procurement, infrastructure, and R and D, since World War II.”
